Before they lived in Schitt’s Creek, the fictional Rose family lived in La Belle Maison in Toronto.

The 14-bedroom, 16-bathroom chateau featured in the first episode of sitcom “Schitt’s Creek” hit the market again this week for C$21.9 million (US$17.8 million)—about C$2 million more than it was asking when it first hit the market in April.

The opulent mansion spans 24,000 square feet and was inspired by 17th-century French architecture. It features domed ceilings, wrought iron fencing, marble and frescoes. It was completed in 2012.

“It’s a really nice mix of opulence and decadence with modern living,” said listing agent Daniel Milstein of the Los Angeles-based Aaron Kirman Group at Compass. He shares the listing with Aaron Kirman and Khoren Mardoyan at Homelife Vision in Toronto. “The detail is incredible.”

Located in the posh St. Andrew Windfields neighborhood, the opulence starts with a double-height entry hall inspired by the Sistine Chapel, according to the listing. It features gold accents, painted domed ceilings and a marble staircase.

There’s a banquet hall on the lower level with granite and marble floors and a dance floor complete with mirrored walls. There’s room for 150 guests.

“You could host parties or weddings there,” Mr. Milstein said. “The grounds are very nice, with a garden area and fountain features…It has a grand aesthetic.”

There’s also a stone patio and a heated circular driveway that can accommodate up to 14 cars, according to the listing. Other amenities include a family room with an aquarium, indoor and outdoor salt water swimming pools, an elevator, a billiards room, a wine cellar and a home theater.

The home was used in the first episode of the Canadian television series, and is where the Rose family learns they’ve lost their fortune. They are then forced to move from the mansion to a tiny town—Schitt’s Creek—and start life anew. The Netflix series ran from 2015 to 2020, starring father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy and Catherine O’Hara.
